Jesus came to earth with a clear purpose that He talked about throughout His life. From the time He was young, Jesus knew He was here to do His Father’s work. He often spoke about this mission, saying things like “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me” and “I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.” Jesus wasn’t here for His own agenda – He came to carry out God’s plan of love for all people.
So what was that plan? Simply put, Jesus came to rescue us. He said “the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost” – and that includes every one of us. God’s heart is that “everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life.” Jesus accomplished this incredible mission by giving His own life on the cross, providing the perfect sacrifice that bridges the gap between us and God. Through His death and resurrection, Jesus not only completed what the Father sent Him to do, but He also started something beautiful – His church, a community of people who follow Him and share His love with others.
